A good way it to have a separate flask connected via a cannula. Put the
paraformaldehyde in there and heat it with a heat gun. As it cracks, it
will generate formaldehyde gas and be entrained into the reactor. You can
also get away with adding paraformaldehyde directly to the reaction and it
will often crack in situ.

I'd like to use formaldehyde in a reaction in aqueous solution. For
reasons of convenience and necessity, I'd like to generate the
formaldehyde from para-formaldehyde. Does anyone know of an efficient
way to do this, and is anyone aware of potential problems?
