One advantage we've found is that things tend to fall out of solution when
the reaction is cooled back down to RT. Remember that this is used for
thermally activated reactions so that the solvent is always a high boiler
and therefore a pain to get rid of. You can try lower temperature, longer
times, or no solvent in a melt. Or, for small scale, microwave heating.

Has anybody in the list experience replacing high boiling point inert
solvents like Dowtherm A with others? If a reaction is described with
Dowtherm A, it is convenient to use it or an alternative can be considered?
